Ironically, the first song from the first session recorded for this rather optimistic album came from a rather dark place. The OBViOUS had taken a nearly 2 year break following their previous release, "...obliVious...".  The years had been very hard years for many reasons including deaths, relational breakups, and recently destructive hurricanes. However, the darker over-tones produced on this track, contrast nicely with more 'pop' songs on this album. Interestingly enough, also recorded this day was "All Day and All Of The Night" (the Kinks cover) released as a bonus track on the 2005 "The OBViOUS Best" album, and the original,

discarded, "slow version" of Mont Saint Michel" (re-arranged and re-reecorded the following year). This session also marked the first time the band recorded using a portable recording system for a non-live recording (in this case a BOSS 16 track machine), later to be dumped into PRO TOOLS and finished back in Tokyo. The lyrics portray how the perception of someone 'offering help' versus someone trying to 'take control' can be confused. Even the "best of intentions" can be misunderstood. The two sides of the mountain, a state of caution versus having an open mind, can be very slippery slopes indeed. It's good to know who's voice we can trust.

このアルバムはかなり前向きで明るいものですが、皮肉なことに、最初のセッションで一番初めに録音されたこの曲は、ずいぶん暗い状況から生まれました。The OBViOUSは、前作"...obliVious..."からほぼ２年間、活動を休止していました。その間、死別、破局、破壊的なハリケーンなどを経験し、色々な意味で大変な時期だったのです。ですが、この曲のシリアスで暗い感じが、アルバムの中のより「ポップ」な曲をうまく引き立てている思います。同じ日に明るめの２曲、「オール・デイ・アンド・オール・オブ・ザ・ナイト」（the Kinksのカバー曲）、これは後に2005年のアルバム"The OBViOUS Best"のボーナストラックで使用、また、採用しなかった「モン・サン・ミッシェル」のスロー・バージョン

（これは翌年に再アレンジ、再レコーディング）を録音したのも興味深いですね。また、このセッションは、初めて非ライブ・レコーディング用の携帯レコーディングシステム（ここでは、Bossの16トラック・マシーン）で録音した記念すべきセッションです。録音したものは、後でPRO TOOLSに移し替えて、東京に戻って完成させました。この曲の歌詞は、「人助けをしよう」とする人と「人を支配しよう」とする人の感覚が、いかにあいまいかを表現しています。善意でさえ誤解して解釈されることってありますよね。相反するような状態、「警戒心を持つこと」と「偏見を持たないこと」でも、結局それぞれが最悪の状況をもたらす可能性があります。誰であれば信用できるのかを知ることは大切ですよね。
